Tom Waits naît en 1949 à Pomona aux Etats-Unis. Son premier album Closing time sort en 1973. Ses albums suivants The heart of Saturday night (1974), Nighthawks at the diner (1975), Small Change (1976), Foreign affairs (1977) et Heart attack and vine (1980) sont applaudis par la critique et trouve leur public.
